2010: New Hours

In 2010 we will start a week earlier, and open an hour earlier.

The Salem Farmers' Market hours will be from 3:00-7:00PM, and will begin Thursday June 17, and run through October 21. (We will be ending one week earlier as well.)

The Salem Farmers' Market will still operate from Derby Square on Front Street.

Volunteer

There is no shortage of work to be done! We are currently looking for volunteers to help with set up and break down of the market. If you're interested in volunteering, send us an email.

A Little History

The Salem Farmers’ Market is a tradition that dates back to 1634. With it’s peak around 1930, where more than 40 vendors sold goods in “collapsible wooden stalls ”, an estimated 10,000 people visited the market on a single Saturday. In the early 1970’s, the market ended, and the Salem Redevelopment Authority redesigned the square into what we now know as Derby Square.

In 2009, Salem Main Streets, led by Jennifer Bell, worked with a handful of dedicated volunteers and the City of Salem to renew the tradition of the Salem Farmers’ Market in downtown Salem, Massachusetts.
