The Market for 7/22

July 21st, 2010

Here is what is going on at the Market this week -

Musical entertainment from 5:00-7:00 with Jeff Buckridge — Acoustic/Flamenco/Classical.

EMP will be at the Market, she sells jewelry, as will Jaho Coffee, they are up by the Essex St side.

At around 2:30, the Nathaniel Bowditch School will be visiting, see what they have in store for us.

And if all that isn’t enough, the PEM will be here as well – “Stars and Stripes Reversed!” What colors are in the American flag?  Black, orange, and green?  Try out this optical illusion art activity inspired by PEM’s interactive Art & Nature Center show, Eye Spy, Playing with Perception, and discover more about the way we see color.

See you then!

Update

The National Park Service will be here today as well (so much going on!).  They will have colonial games, fish stamps and Junior Ranger books.

Vote Us America’s Favorite Market

July 18th, 2010

American Farmland Trust is having a competition, America’s Favorite Farmers Market. If half of our Facebook friends voted, we would be well in the lead for the state of Massachusetts. If everyone votes, well, that would send a message to the rest of the state. That message would be:

Hello. This is the Salem Farmers’ Market, the Salem in Massachusetts. We not only have a wonderful group of farms, but our vendors overall are great. Don’t get me started on the people that come to our market every week, I would go on and on about how fantastic they are, and you might get bored after about an hour as I wax poetic about how much we appreciate them. But if we win, or at least take Massachusetts, then we can add one more thing to the list of great things going on in Salem right now.

Please take a few minutes, and vote for us. It would be very much appreciated. You can only vote for each market once.

Lt. Governor Tim Murray Visits the Market

July 16th, 2010

Pictured Jennifer Bell, Salem Main Streets Manager, Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, Salem Mayor Kimberley Driscoll, and Gus Sousa Market Manager.

Yesterday at the market was a beautiful day. Over 3,000 people attended  including Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, Salem Mayor Kimberley Driscoll and State Representative John Keenan. With the mellow music of Brad Byrd playing in the background people enjoyed cider donuts and cupcakes while they shopped for lobsters, bok choy, corn on the cob, raspberries…
