I imagine one of the toughest things about becoming more popular, and needed, is knowing when to tell someone no. Especially if you need the money. Balancing short term need vs long term sustainability must keep people awake at night. Farmers are smart folk, and they seem to be willing to share knowledge, and have learned that working together, competitively, makes everyone stronger. That is one take-away from watching the farmers at the various Markets. It is interesting to hear about some effects of popularity.
To make matters even more interesting, our growing season is getting longer with earlier springs and later first hard frost dates. Arguably this makes winter markets more realistic as the late season soils stay a bit warmer.
